3-Minute Update - February 13, 2025

Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s 3-minute update. I’m your host, Tyler Matthews, coming to you from Goodyear Arizona, where spring training baseball practices have begun for our Cleveland Guardians! The first sign that warmer weather and summer nights will be here before you know it. Just keep thinking warm thoughts to get through these chilly winter days. Let’s get into this week’s news!

First, let’s go over some upcoming training! EDGE training is happening! February 23rd at the unit service center. April 5th at Beaumont. May 18th at the unit service center. Scoutmaster basic, which is required for all scoutmasters and assistant scoutmasters, is happening April 11-13th at Firelands. BALOO training, which every cub scout pack needs a few of, is happening April 25th-27th at Firelands. Rangemaster training takes place on April 5th at Beaumont, and April 12th at Firelands. Plus, registrations for wood badge and NYLT are now open. You can find all these training courses, and registrations at lecscouting.org/calendar.

The Eagle Scout Class of 2024, Recognition Dinner will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at The Croatian Lodge. Check-in begins at 5 pm, dinner starts at 6 pm. Register for the event through the link. New for this year, we are offering Troop and Family Sponsorships! The multi-level packages include reserved tables as well as Eagle Scout recognition throughout the program booklet and event. The Cleveland Diocese catholic committee on Scouting invites you to attend the “Called by the Spirit” retreat. All adults involved in Catholic Scouting are welcome to attend. The retreat is on Saturday, March 1st from 9 am to 5 pm at St. Albert the Great in North Royalton. The cost is $5 and breakfast and lunch will be provided. The 2025 Wood Badge Breakfast is happening on Saturday, March 1st. Come enjoy a wonderful breakfast, fellowship with other scouters, an auction, and meet the staff for the upcoming course! register now on the council website, and you can send questions to Linda Gray.

The Celebration of Scouting is a tribute to the extraordinary dedication of Scout volunteers, like you, who make a lasting impact every day. Join us for an evening of fellowship and inspiring stories as we honor remarkable individuals with prestigious Council-level awards, including the Silver Beaver Award, Distinguished Award of Merit, Unit Scouter Award, Venturing Leader Award, Duty to God Award, and Ben Hauserman Award. The Celebration of Scouting will be at Ariel International Center on March 8, 2025. You can register now and send your questions to Carol Doe.

Ready to sharpen your skills and learn some awesome new tricks? This year’s University of Scouting is serving up 10 hands-on, adventure-packed sessions just for you! Here’s what’s on the menu: Backpacking, Hiking, Basic Cooking, Canoe & Kayak Trip Planning, Camp Gadgets, Dutch Oven Cooking, Cub Scout Games, Knot Tying, Teaching First Aid, and the exciting STEM Supernova Program. That’s 10 top-notch classes, led by the best instructors around!

And that’s just the start—there are 57 total courses to choose from! Check the council’s website for the full lineup. Mark your calendar: Saturday, March 15, 2025, Lorain County JVS, Oberlin. This is going to be your one-stop scouting skills bonanza—don’t miss out! Registration is open and classes will close quickly, so grab your spot now.

Service at the beach Kelley’s Island is officially open for registration! Join us for 2 full weekends full of service, giving back to our beautiful local parks, on April 25-27th and May 2-4th. Kelleys Island has a capped capacity so if you're interested, register now before this sells out. Units are responsible for their ferry transportation to and from the island and cub scouts are welcome to join on Saturdays to help. Any questions, contact Chelsea Rodgers
